Various investor groups in ''Spezialfonds''
A variety of investor groups invest in ''Spezialfonds'' (funds for institutional investors only). The most important of these investor groups are insurance companies, followed by pension institutions, credit institutions and other types of companies, which include industrial foundations as well as employer and business associations.
Fund industry as a major asset manager of retirement capital
The fund sector is therefore one of the most important managers of pension capital in Germany. Life assurance companies and pension funds have committed more than 34 per cent of their total capital to investment funds. For occupational pension schemes the figure is around 28 per cent. Funded retirement provisions are inconceivable without funds. They are at the very core of the German pension system.
