BVI on the ‘Finance Europe’ Label
On 5 June 2025, France will present the idea of a European investment label, called the ‘Finance Europe‘, which aims at directing retail investors' savings into the European economy.
Thomas Richter, BVI’s CEO, comments:
‘Bringing more people to the capital markets and financing the European economy is a worthy goal. However, this label cannot be aimed at inexperienced savers, given that it permits investments with low liquidity, among other things. It is also unsuitable for retirement provision, as the narrower investment universe leads to lower return opportunities in the long term. Furthermore, it is questionable whether EU Member States will be willing to provide the necessary tax incentives.’
‘Germany should set the right priorities. The reform of private pension provision must be a priority. New label products at EU level can play a complementary role.‘
